A look back: Developing the Floyd Side Table

Last winter, we set out to design a whole new Floyd product – the Floyd Side Table. Having launched the Floyd Table in November, we knew we could make an adaptation of the design into a side table, using birch plywood, steel legs with hand fasteners, and linoleum for the surface. Here are some of the pics from along the way – fine tuning the dimensions and angles, testing for strength, and one of my personal favorite parts of the process – designing the packaging.

The first prototype with some early sketches

The first leg prototypes. Note the flat edge on the front of the plate.

The final iteration of the leg. We added some material to the plate to improve stability.

Trying out different sizes of tops & heights

The final packaging in all its glory!
