We love a good plant-filled balcony. Milan has no shortage of these

There are so many nice steel gates here too!

Every April, the international furniture design community gathers in Milan for the annual Salone del Mobile (or Furniture Salon, started in 1961) to show off their latest designs and exhibitions. Everyone from the big players like Vitra and Hay down to the smallest boutique studios and the who’s who of design press are there to see the latest trends and market shifts, but also to exhibit their products in amazing Italian villas and old factories alike. For many it’s an opportunity to get their designs in front of potential buyers/distributers, and to show they’re on the international scene. This past April, the Floyd design team took the trip to survey the scene, and see how some of our favorite brands displayed their products, and to introduce Floyd to the international design community. Although we’re not planning to exhibit there any time soon, it was great to see some truly amazing designs, new & old. Milan is a beautiful city, and we enjoyed exploring the city itself as much as the exhibitions.
